Waves
P Waves:
These
waves travel along the interior of the earth and penetrate through any
medium.
S wave:
These
wave shake perpendicular to the direction of movement. They also posses
elastic property.
Surface
waves:
Unlike
the body waves, these waves propagate along the surface of the earth
Rayleigh's
Waves:
They
shake and cause displacement in up and down manner similar to the P waves
Love
waves:
These
wave shake and cause a sidewise displacement similar to S waves.
In
today's class, we also discussed the various types of earthquakes and various
techniques and instruments used to measure them, and mitigate their
impacts.
We
discussed about the science behind the tsunami to get a deeper understanding
about it.
