In today's class we saw various characteristics of mixtures
Non-Uniform heterogeneous mixture:
Eg:Lemonade
Here the solute particles are unstable and scattering of light occurs
until the solute particles get settled in the bottom. These kind of mixtures
can be separated by filtration method.
Uniform-heterogeneous mixture:
Eg:milk
Here scattering of light does not occur and the chemical combination is
same throughout the mixture. The solution is stable and the mixture can be
separated by centrifugation process ( eg: butter from curd).
A uniform-heterogenous mixture consists of a dispersed phase and a
dispersion medium.
Chromatography:
If two or more solutes are present in a solvent, they can be separated
by chromatography.
Distillation:
This method is used to separate a mixture of liquids containing
different boiling points. Eg: various components are seperated from crude oil
through this process.
Metals:
These elements are good conductors of heat and electriciry. They are
Malleable, ductile and strong.
These basic concepts will be helpful to learn advanced concepts in
forthcoming classes.
