Sterlite Copper Smelting Plant:

40% of Copper required for India's was produced in Sterlite until May 2019, after which it was closed.
Today we are importing copper from other nations to meet our requirements. 

Sustainable Development:
Economic Development must occur keeping environmental conservation in mind. Development and Environmental conservation must go hand in hand . This is known as Sustainable development.

National Green Tribunal:

The National Green Tribunal Act, 2010  is an Act of the Parliament of India which enables the creation of a special tribunal to handle the expeditious disposal of the cases pertaining to environmental issues.It draws inspiration from India's constitutional provision of (Constitution of India/Part III) Article 21 Protection of life and personal liberty, which assures the citizens of India the right to a healthy environment.

The five regional benches are at New Delhi (North), Pune (West), Bhopal (Central), Chennai (South) and Kolkata (East). Each Bench has a specified geographical jurisdiction in a region. Further, a mechanism for circuit benches is also available. 
The Chairperson of the NGT is a retired Judge of the Supreme Court, headquartered in New Delhi.  Other Judicial members are retired Judges of High Courts. Each bench of the NGT will comprise at least one Judicial Member and one Expert Member. Expert members should have a professional qualification and a minimum of 15 years of experience in the field of environment/forest conservation and related subjects.

1972 - United Nations Conference on Human Environment:

The United Nations Conference on the Human Environment was held in Stockholm, Sweden, from June 5–16 in 1972. This was the first international level effort to combat climate change after the continuous proposals by activists and experts .


Fireworks Industry in India:

The Fireworks entered West Bengal from China. Tamils from Sivakasi learnt the skill of manufacturing Fireworks from Bengal.

Today Sivakasi is a major hub of firecracker and match box making cottage industries where huge amount of unorganized labour is employed. 
The major issues in the fireworks industry in Sivakasi is child labour and frequent accidents due to unregulated safety measures. 


Corporate Social Responsibility:

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a form of international private business self-regulation which aims to contribute to societal goals of a philanthropic, activist, or charitable nature by engaging in or supporting volunteering or ethically-oriented practices.


Scientific Social Responsibility:

Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR) is the confluence of scientific knowledge with visionary leadership and social conscience.

It is about building synergies among all stakeholders in scientific knowledge community and also about developing linkages between science and society.

107th Indian Science Congress considered the importance of communication and community outreach programmes to make people aware of scientific research.

The Department of Science and Technology also mentioned about the Centre’s policy on implementing Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR).
