As per IUCN
Total number of Species- 1.5 million
Out of which 22% are plants and 78% animals.
70% of animals are insects.
Number of Fungal species is greater than that of amphibians, reptiles and fishes.
India has 24% of Land but nearly 7% of world's species diversity.
Importance of Biodiversity:
Helps with ecosystem services, provides natural beauty, stabilises the environment and has ethical significance.
Measurement of Biodiversity:
a) Alpha diversity
b) Beta diversity
c) Gamma diversity
Species richness:
Variety of species present in a region.
Species Eveness:
Proportion of Species. It tells whether a particular species dominate an ecosystem or not.
